In collaboration with the Sunshine for All Foundation, the Minuteman Chapter of Student Corps held a multi-day event supporting the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) of Springfield, Massachusetts.

18 volunteers from various ages and towns came to Lexington to fundraise the evening of Fridays, August 5th and 11th.

On Saturday, August 6th—six of our young volunteers and three parents accompanied by a Sunshine for All Foundation member made the trip west to the Springfield RMH to deliver a new carpet cleaner as well as prepare a Meal from the Heart to share with the ten families at the House now.

All our volunteers were so glad to have been able to brighten the days of others with a seemingly simple Meal from the Heart, and we look forward to another visit on 8/27.

The Student Corps Saratoga Kids for Kids chapter hosted an art sale at the Palo Alto farmer’s market on Saturday, July 8. Featuring handcrafted goods made by chapter members and their families, the sale was well-received by passersby and raised about $200. These funds will go toward hosting a STEM workshop where participants can build their own telegraphs, as part of the chapter’s greater mission to encourage children, especially young girls, to pursue futures in STEM.

On Saturday, April 8, 2023, the Minuteman Chapter of Student Corps fundraised for A Life A Time, an organization dedicated to aiding the families of children suffering from severe injuries, covering travel, housing, and other expenses so that the children can receive medical care from Shriners Children’s Hospital in Boston. Prior to the event, which was held in Lexington’s Cary Memorial Hall, some of our core members had also prepared flyers, donation log sheets, and thoughtfully-made donation boxes, facilitating the process. During the two-hour event, eleven students, ranging from fifth graders to high schoolers, worked hard to raise a total of $1,237 toward the cause—an average of more than $100 per volunteer. Thank you to all who participated, and we hope to continue organizing similar events in the future!

On January 29th, 2023, the 8th day of the Year of the Rabbit, the Minuteman Chapter of Student Corps organized a concert for Gracious Home Center in Burlington, MA, to welcome the Chinese New Year and bring some joy to the senior citizens there. 30 talented volunteers, ranging from enthusiastic five-year-olds to high schoolers, brought to the event not only musical performances of both Chinese folk tunes like 彩云追月 (“Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon”) and Western pieces like a butterfly dance, a magic show, and a martial arts performance, all praised thoroughly by the staff and attendees. Thank you to all who participated in and helped organize this event; we hope everyone enjoyed the experience. We look forward to more events like this in the future and hope to make this concert a yearly occurrence!

In the past month, the Unity Community chapter went to the Auburndale park and the Lexington resevoir for two trash pickup events. As a result of everyone’s hard work, we collected over 16 pounds of trash. Thank you to all who participated despite the harsh cold and weather conditions. Our chapter is very happy to make our planet a better place!
