On Sunday, September 27, 2026, the Cupertino Chapter partnered with the City of Mountain View to restore the habitat of the Western Burrowing Owls at Stevens Creek Trail. This previous landfill is now a work in progress to become a biodiversity hotspot and a safe breeding ground for the endangered Western Burrowing Owls.
A diverse group of passionate individuals joined in creating a natural hotspot for all types of native organisms in order to provide a haven for a pair of breeding owls and other wildlife. The volunteers worked all morning along with Matthew, a Mountain View Environmental Specialist, to pull out invasive plants and help organisms within the garden. Volunteers encountered animals like the monarch butterfly, red milkweed beetle, bees, and hummingbirds. The volunteers cleared out 40 buckets of weeds and invasive plants and learned about identifying different plants within the region. Thank you Angela, Ruipeng, Cynthia, Allie, Loreen and others for volunteering.
